The Hotel Adlon Kempinski is one of the most luxurious and famous hotels in Germany. It follows the tradition of the original Hotel Adlon, opened in 1907, which burned down in 1945 and was demolished except for one side wing.

Destroyed in the Second World War, it was in the border area of the divided city from 1961 to 1989 and was then rebuilt. The Brandenburg Gate is located on the western edge of the square.
