What makes Walking Tour Kreuzberg Off the Beaten Track a unique experience ?

This garden shows how spontenously people can change their neighbourghood.

We will go inside this house and on the roof terrace and you will learn sth. about the unique architecture.

Engelbecken is part of the former “Luisenstädtischen Kanal”, that existed between 1849 and 1926

The children’s farm was started in 1980 as a demand of the squatter movement at that time. Since then it has been developped to a succesfull project not only for young people in the area

Bethaniendamm is a street with a garden strip in between, in time of the Berlin wall this was the place of the wall! You can still see the differences between the former east and west.

Before the wall it devided, this church was one of the biggest christian communites in Berlin. Today it hosts a great exhibition about the time of the Berlin wall in this neighbouhood.

This jewelry place was the first in Kreuzberg and the Bethanien-Hospital from 1850 was the first buildung here. Today it is a multi-functional building including a musicschool and the cafe-restaurant “Three sisters”. Nearby we see the first of the many ocupied houses in Kreuzberg. Another nice monument is the “Feuerwehrbrunnen” by the Kreuzberg artist Kurt Mühlenhaupt.

This is the main street in this part of Kreuzberg with a lot of back yards, pubs, graffity and old houses. Best atmosphere!

Here everything comes together – youngsters meeting for the night trip, turkish women to shop on the market, business people to celebrate end of days work and tourists to enjoy one of the atmospheric food places. Not to oversee many of socially deprived folks!

This big place shows some ideas of town planners throughout history.
