Bielefeld is one of the 20 largest cities in Germany and well-known to everyone. This is where Dr Oetker comes from. But Bielefeld is much more than that. A must is of course the Sparrenburg Castle. The young university town is located on the old trade route and has a long history with the production and trade of linen. And the Alte Markt, the heart of the city, is surrounded by patrician houses with historic facades and beautiful roofs.

Sparrenberg Castle, also known as the Sparrenburg, is a restored fortress in the Bielefeld-Mitte district of Bielefeld, Germany. It is located on the Sparrenberg in the Teutoburg Forest and towers 60 meters above the city center.

Bielefeld’s Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) is a splendid building, an administrative headquarters and the seat of the city’s Lord Mayor.

The church dates from 1340, making it the oldest town church in Bielefeld. The most special thing about the church is the carved altar with a total of 250 figures.

The monument consists of a three meter high bronze linen weaver figure standing on a plinth and reminds us that linen weavers played an important role in the economic development of the town in Bielefeld at the beginning of the 20th century.
