From Immenstaad we cycle comfortably ON the water, either to the “WÜRTTEMBERGISCHE” in the direction of Friedrichshafen (Mon – Wed – Fri) or to the “BADISCHE” in the direction of Hagnau / Meersburg. Enjoy the great view of the mountains and the region. There are also enough opportunities for stops along the way.

The bird islands are two islands that are close together. They are located directly in front of the Dornier pier and protrude as a narrow strip vertically into the lake. The two islands are only separated by a small, shallow channel. The densely overgrown bird islands are a breeding ground and habitat for many native birds and are protected.

Former company location Graf Zeppelin in Fischbach-Friedrichshafen (now location of the company MTU). Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH manufactured the airships in Friedrichshafen-Manzell, in 1918 around 4,000 employees worked there. In addition to building airships, Graf Zeppelin recognized very far-sightedly that the large aircraft would sooner or later replace the airship. That is why departments for aircraft construction were set up in Friedrichshafen under Claude Dornier (Dornier aircraft). You can experience much more about it today in a visit to the Zeppelin Museum and the Dornier Museum in Friedrichshafen.

The Zeppelin Museum, which opened in 1996, is located in the former port station right on the lake. 1,500 original exhibits are shown. The Evangelical Lutheran Castle Church is located at the end of Klosterstrasse in Friedrichshafen, on the Lake Constance circular route and is an important building along the Upper Swabian Baroque Route. Its two 55 meter high towers are a striking landmark. When it was built in 1702, it was the largest baroque church on Lake Constance.

The New Meersburg Castle was the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Constance from 1750 until the abolition of the diocese in 1803. Due to the secularization, the castle was only used by the Constance prince-bishops for around 50 years and passed to the state of Baden in 1802/1803. In 1806 it served French troops as accommodation, from 1838 to 1843 as a Miss Institute, in 1838 as a Baden official prison, in 1863 as a seaman’s school and from 1865 to 1937 as a Baden institution for the deaf and dumb, which moved in from Pforzheim. In 1955, the state of Baden-Württemberg took over the New Castle in Meersburg.

The Helmsdorf Castle belonged to the von Helmsdorf family of a ministerial family. The spiritual poet Konrad von Helmsdorf was known – he wrote the Heilsspiegel around 1330 – and the Germanist Joseph von Laßberg, owner of Helmsdorf Castle from 1798 to 1802. A marina and campsite are currently operated on the site.

Kirchberg Castle was formerly an estate of the Salem Monastery. It has been rebuilt, modernized and privately launched by investors for condominiums.
Below the castle is a campsite, the marina and vineyards. Insider tip: at the marina there is a wonderful little cafe in the open air, we always take a break here.

Hersberg Castle is a building complex that can be seen from afar on a hill of the same name overgrown with vines, west of Immenstaad between Immenstaad between Immenstaad and the Hochberg water pumping station, a striking vantage point, rises 55 meters above Lake Constance. In the last days of the war in April 1945, high-ranking opposing officers and German officers were imprisoned in the house chapel under threat of death in connection with the assassination attempt on Hitler on July 20, 1944. Under dramatic circumstances they were hidden from the SS and rescued. After the war, Hersberg Palace became quarters for 200 interveners and then French barracks until 1947.The current appearance of the palace from the south dates from around 1600: a stately 44-meter-wide frontal building with a Belvedere turret in the middle, left and right on the right a side wing with Gothic stepped gables, framed by old trees.

The idyllic old town of Meersburg impresses with its baroque buildings, pretty half-timbered houses and its narrow, romantic streets. There are numerous small shops here that invite you to shop. The on-site gastronomic offer is also varied and ranges from regional cuisine to dishes from all over the world. Here you will also find the Hotel-Restaurant Zum Bären, which is the oldest inn in Meersburg. This was probably opened in 1250. The foundation walls and one of its two vaulted cellars even come from the previous building. In the course of its existence, the inn has been rebuilt and expanded several times. It has been owned by the Keller, Karrer and Gilowsky families since the middle of the 19th century.
