Until Christmas Eve, a small town of more than 180 wooden stands all decorated for Christmas, lighten up the heart of the old town, transforming it into a “Christmas City”. Here you will find traditional Christmas hand-made ornaments of all shapes and sizes, the local “Rauschgoldengel” (gold-foil angel), the “Zwetschgenmännle” (Little Prune Man), a plethora of toys and games and delicious holiday treats for the whole family. Try the famous Lebkuchen, the famous gingerbread cakes which tradition dates back to 600 years in Nuremberg. And if the weather is cold and below freezing temperatures, take a sip of the typical Glühwein, a hot mulled wine. It will warm you up from within after your stroll around the Market. If your heart earns for something more cosmopolitan, you will find it in the Market of the Sister Cities, right next to the Christmas Market. From Scottish kilts to Czech wooden angels and tasty French marmalade, you will find here gifts from all over the world. Then visit the Children’s Christmas
Market, with its nostalgic merry-go-round, a Christmas bakery, Santa Claus’ home and much, much more! Don’t forget to look for the Nuremberg Christkind, which can be roughly translated into “baby Jesus”, which according to tradition brings presents to children on Christmas day. There is no Santa here, but Saint Nicolaus, whose day is celebrated before Christmas, on December the 6th. The Christkind is the symbol of Christmas here, and he visits the market from Tuesday to Friday, at 3 pm. Look for his blond locks, big crown and dressed in gold dress. If you find him, ask for a picture or even tell him what you would like for Christmas!
